Purpose of Couples Therapy and Couples Coaching
The purpose of couples therapy is to help you develop your relationship in the direction you desire. These conversations work by allowing each of you to strengthen and express your personal integrity through a focus on your needs and boundaries.
Equal Space for Both Partners
In couples therapy with me, parterapeut, you have the opportunity to discuss your lives without one of you ending up as the scapegoat or being overlooked in the conversation. I help ensure that both of you have equal space, so you both feel that your emotions are heard and respected.
Couples Therapy Can Provide:
- Help in Making Room for Both Partners’ Needs Without Pressuring Each Other: This can happen by verbalizing your needs and getting tools to meet them in a way that both of you can stand by.
- Help in Making Room for Both Partners’ Boundaries Without Rejecting Each Other: This can happen by articulating your boundaries and getting tools to respect them in a way that feels good for both of you.
- Help in Strengthening Communication Between You: This can happen by getting to the core of your disagreements and getting tools to address them.
- Help in Strengthening Counterplay Between You: This can happen by becoming aware of your individual standpoints and getting tools to stand by them.
- Help in Strengthening Intimacy Between You: This can happen by fostering a new individual space and a loving connection in the relationship.
These conversations help you understand your current situation, become aware of your standpoint, and take the next steps you need. In a conversation or a series of them, you are seen and effectively guided forward on your path.
Who Are Couples Therapy Sessions For?
My clients come because they experience dissatisfaction in a specific area of their daily lives or imbalance in their relationship. They may also be motivated by a desire to get to know each other better and find more genuine standpoints individually.
Couples therapy or couples coaching is for you if you:
- Experience rejection, distance, and insecurity between you. It’s also for you if you want more confirmation, closeness, and warmth between you.
- Experience pressure, interference, or demands that both of you are not comfortable with. It’s also for you if you want more mutual respect between you.
- Experience conflicts, accusations, or misinterpretations. It’s also for you if you want more understanding between you.
- Experience conflict avoidance, ambiguity, or a relationship marked by broken promises. It’s also for you if you want more openness between you.
- Experience that closeness is drowned in everyday routines, or that it’s hard to find your shared spark. It’s also for you if you want more intimacy in your daily lives.
These are just a few examples, but couples therapy can address many other issues or developmental areas in your relationship. If you have specific desires for your sessions that are not mentioned here and you would like my perspective on them, feel free to call or write to me for more information.
